A tragic accident in San Antonio, Texas, resulted in the death of a 10-month-old baby after a toddler found a loaded rifle in the trunk of a car and accidentally discharged it. According to authorities, the incident took place on Monday afternoon outside the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Affairs Hospital.
Police Chief William McManus confirmed that three children, ages 3, 2, and 10 months, along with a woman, were sitting inside the parked vehicle. One of the older children located the rifle in the trunk, and in the process of handling the weapon, accidentally pulled the trigger. The gun fired, striking the baby, who was later pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts by first responders.
The infant, identified as Khamari Khols Lang, was the victim of this devastating accident. McManus expressed his sorrow, calling the situation a “terrible, terrible tragedy.”
While police have not disclosed the relationship between the woman and the children, local news outlet KSAT12 reported that the children were siblings and had been visiting the hospital for an appointment at the time of the incident.
As of now, no charges have been filed in relation to the baby’s death, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have yet to provide further details.
