Discovery in Rowdown Fields, New Addington, prompts intensive investigation
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that human remains were found in Rowdown Fields, New Addington, south London, and are treating the case as a murder investigation. The discovery was made just before 9am on Tuesday when police were alerted to the scene.
After consulting a forensic anthropologist, it was confirmed that the remains were human. Detectives believe the remains belong to a single victim, though the investigation is still in its early stages.
Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, leading the investigation, assured the public that his team is working diligently to gather evidence and conduct a thorough search of the area. “Since yesterday, further remains have been recovered,” he said. DI Thorpe added that samples have been sent for urgent forensic analysis, with a special post-mortem examination expected later in the week.
As the investigation continues, officers remain on-site, and a crime scene is still in place. The park is located near two local schools, and police have reassured the community that they are focused on finding the victim’s identity.
“While we cannot yet confirm details such as age, gender, or ethnicity, our primary focus is to identify the victim and provide their family with the answers they deserve,” said DI Thorpe.
Superintendent Lewis Collins expressed gratitude for the local community’s support, urging the public to refrain from speculation and allowing the investigation to unfold.
