Diamonds aren’t just for women anymore – here’s how to pick the perfect ring for him
Engagement rings have traditionally been a female-centric symbol of commitment, but times are changing. Increasingly, men are embracing the idea of wearing engagement rings too. According to Pandora, demand for male engagement rings has soared by 90% since February, reflecting a wider trend where even high-profile A-listers are proudly showing off their own rings, such as Brooklyn Beckham’s diamond-encrusted hoop and Ryan Reynolds’ distinctive wedding band.
Jewellery designer Lily Gabriella Elia notes, “There’s been a significant rise in interest for men’s engagement rings in recent years. This could be due to evolving societal norms and a growing focus on gender equality and inclusive expressions of love.”
The rising trend of men’s engagement rings is also being embraced by jewellery brands. Tiffany, for instance, has recently launched a bold signet diamond ring, and Bleue Burnham designs pieces that blend traditionally feminine stones with masculine silhouettes, creating gender-neutral rings with wide appeal. Hannah Martin, known for her genderless jewellery, adds, “Our collections are designed for everyone, regardless of gender. We see a preference for solid gold bands or subtle stones like black diamonds and sapphires in men’s engagement rings.” Her Vincent Signet ring, featuring onyx and a white diamond, is a prime example of this approach.
Choosing the Right Engagement Ring for Him
When selecting an engagement ring for a man, stick with high-quality metals like silver, gold, or platinum, which complement the strength and character of men’s hands. Skip the delicate, dainty bands and opt for thicker, more substantial styles. Consider his personal preferences: does he wear silver or gold jewellery? Choose the metal and stone that aligns with his usual style. If you’re unsure, diamonds are a timeless and universally loved choice.
Ultimately, whether you go for a traditional design or a more modern, unisex aesthetic, make sure the ring reflects his personality and the commitment you both share.
