Two people were hospitalised after experiencing severe breathing problems and eye irritation in Bath on Monday, following an encounter with a woman carrying a bag. The emergency response prompted a cordon to be set up on Stall Street as authorities worked to ensure public safety.

At around 2:30 pm, Avon and Somerset Police received reports that a woman had approached individuals with a bag, leading to some feeling unwell. Two of those affected reported difficulty breathing and itchy eyes, and were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
In response, emergency services, including hazmat-clad personnel, were dispatched to the scene. The ambulance service alerted authorities at 3:08 pm, and a precautionary cordon was established to safeguard the public.
Authorities’ Actions
A police spokesperson confirmed that the situation was being treated with caution, and that protective clothing was worn by emergency staff as a safety measure. The incident was being handled by a coordinated response team from Avon Fire and Rescue Service, SWAST, and local police.
