Arsenal Manager Sees Interest in Cuesta as a Positive Reflection of His Work with the Team
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised the growing interest in his assistant coach, Carlos Cuesta, following reports linking him with the vacant Norwich City managerial position. The 28-year-old, who was promoted to assistant manager at Arsenal in the summer, has impressed with his contributions to the team’s success.
Norwich City, currently under the management of David Wagner, are reportedly keeping an eye on Cuesta, with potential plans to pursue him if they decide to part ways with Wagner in the summer.
Arteta, who himself made the transition from assistant coach to head coach after his time at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, has expressed support for Cuesta’s ambitions and is keen on offering growth opportunities to his staff. “If that’s their will, you cannot stop them,” Arteta said when asked about Cuesta’s potential move. “I wouldn’t, no.”
The Spaniard believes it is essential for clubs to provide a development pathway for their coaching staff, emphasizing the importance of exposing talent to new challenges. “People don’t want to do the same thing for years, and there is a way to incentivise people, inspire others, and let them explore,” Arteta explained. “Curiosity is a really important quality, and it thrives within our young staff.”
Arteta, who benefitted from such opportunities early in his career, noted that giving staff the chance to grow and advance is crucial for maintaining a motivated and effective team. “When other clubs try to get them, it’s a really good sign that they’re doing a really good job,” he concluded, highlighting Cuesta’s growing reputation.
