Knebworth 22 could see Liam edge ahead of his brother Noel in the race for chart-toppers

Liam Gallagher is on the verge of claiming his fifth solo number one album in the UK, with his latest release Knebworth 22. If this album secures the top spot, Liam will surpass his brother Noel, who has also had four number one albums in his solo career.

Knebworth 22 is a live album featuring songs recorded during Liam’s two sold-out performances at Knebworth Park in June 2022, more than 25 years after Oasis performed there in 1996. The album includes hit tracks such as Liam’s solo single Wall Of Glass, as well as Oasis classics like Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova.

Liam, 50, has enjoyed significant success as a solo artist since Oasis’ split in 2009, having released several chart-topping albums, including As You Were (2017), Why Me? Why Not (2019), MTV Unplugged: Live at Hull City Hall (2020), and C’mon You Know (2022).

Noel, 56, who leads Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, has also secured four number one albums with his band, including Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (2011), Chasing Yesterday (2015), Who Built The Moon (2017), and Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2021). His latest album Council Skies (2023) peaked at number two in June.

Knebworth 22 is currently leading the UK charts, with Swedish rock band The Hive in second place with their album The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons. Following closely behind are electronic duo Jungle, poised to debut at number three with Volcano. Meanwhile, David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture Soundtrack is set to claim the fourth spot, 40 years after its original release.

In other chart news, Taylor Swift’s 2014 album 1989, which contains hits like Shake It Off, Blank Space, and Style, is making a return to the top 10, potentially re-entering at number five, following her recent announcement of the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in October.
